GW’s commitment to educating and encouraging future public servants and its academic outreach efforts focused on Hispanic populations were recognized with the inaugural Educational Visionary Award, part of the Hispanic Leadership Awards.
President Steven Knapp, joined by GW students, faculty, staff and alumni, accepted the award on behalf of the University in a ceremony Wednesday night at the Capital Hilton. The awards program raised funds for the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which coordinated the event.
“Hispanic culture is a vibrant feature of the Washington, D.C., landscape and a growing presence at The George Washington University,” said Dr. Knapp. “That's a reality our students, faculty and staff are eager to embrace, and I have enjoyed witnessing the blossoming of events and programs that engage Hispanic communities both on and beyond our campus.”
The University’s partnerships extend throughout the community and include:
• Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement
• Graduate School of Education and Human Development’s National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition, Center for Equity and Excellence in Education and Center for Study of Language and Education
• Law School’s Immigration Clinic and International Human Rights Clinic;
• Columbian College of Arts and Science’s Latino Health Research Collaboration and Latin American and Latino Initiative
• School of Public Health and Health Services’ Center for Health and Health Care in the Schools
