For GW Basketball, an Offseason at the Wall

Vietnam Veterans Memorial lends inspiration to ‪preseason drills.

Last summer the George Washington men’s basketball team took a different approach to offseason conditioning. Designed by Strength & Conditioning Coach Matt Johnson, whose father, grandfather and great-grandfather were veterans, the workout set out to recognize and honor the commitment and sacrifice of Vietnam Veterans.

Each early-morning workout started with a jog from campus to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where players would pick a name from the wall to remember throughout the duration of the workout. After, they would return to campus and research the individual.
