Richard Samans, M.A.’82, published the book, “Human-Centered Economics: The Living Standards of Nations.” This book argues that modern economics has strayed from the more balanced model of economic progress framed by the field’s most influential original theorists, including Adam Smith. The book proposes a reformulation of macroeconomic theory and policy to internalize considerations of social inclusion, environmental sustainability and systemic and human resilience.
Samans is the director of the International Labour Organization’s Research Department and has served as its Sherpa to the G20, G7, and BRICS processes. He was formerly the Founder and Chairman of the Climate Standards Disclosure Board, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum and Global Green Growth Institute Director-General.
