Laura Engel, associate professor of international education and international affairs, was selected for a 2023-2024 Fulbright Scholar Award in Costa Rica. Engel will be based at the UN University for Peace to carry out her project, Strengthening Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainability.
The project focuses on teaching seminars on education policies related to global citizenship; research on national and regional education policies related to global citizenship education in collaboration with UNESCO San José, a cluster office to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama; and cultivating a cross-national partnership between the UNESCO chair on international education for development (based at GW) and the UNESCO chair on education for sustainable development.
Engel directs the International Education Program and the GW Global Education Lab. She also serves as the co-chair of the GW UNESCO chair in international education for development.
