Renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall will discuss her life and work at GW’s Lisner Auditorium.

The Oct. 11 event will include an “intimate conversation” with Dr. Goodall and honor this year’s Jane Goodall Global Leadership Award winners.

Tickets are $10 through Ticketmaster under the promotion code “Jane.” Additionally, 300 free tickets are available for students. Ticket proceeds benefit the Jane Goodall Institute.

“I am so pleased that the Jane Goodall Institute Global Leadership Awards will be hosted on the campus of the George Washington University,” says Dr. Goodall. “The GW community and our award recipients share my belief that we can all make a difference for people, animals and the environment.”

This year marks a milestone for Dr. Goodall. Fifty years ago, Dr. Goodall first set foot on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in what is now Tanzania’s Gombe National Park. The chimpanzee behavioral research she spearheaded there has produced a wealth of scientific discovery, and her vision has expanded into a global mission to make a difference for all living things.

“We are very excited to have Jane Goodall here at GW to join her in celebrating the 50th anniversary of her pioneering research on chimpanzee behavior,” says Brian Richmond, chair of GW’s Department of Anthropology.

“Dr. Goodall started a field of research that thrives to this day, and has, more than any other person, raised awareness of conservation efforts to save our closest living relative, the chimpanzee,” he says.

The Oct. 11 event will include a conversation between Dr. Goodall and the Jane Goodall Institute’s president Maureen P. Smith and recognize the winners of the institute’s Global Leadership Award, which honor individuals and organizations that share Dr. Goodall’s values, vision and commitment.

This year’s awardees include the National Geographic Society; actress Charlize Theron; Mark J. Plotkin, president of The Amazon Conservation Team; Rick Asselta; and Kai Neander, Jessica French and Arun Krishnamurthy for Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Global Youth Leadership.
