Cyndi Lauper, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Original Score for “Kinky Boots,” will headline the George Washington University Alumni Weekend 2013. The iconic pop star of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time” and “True Colors” will perform at the Charles E. Smith Center on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. The concert is open to GW alumni and their guests who are registered for Alumni Weekend.  Registration will open in July.

Cyndi Lauper’s stop at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus will occur during her new “She’s So Unusual Tour,” which kicks off this summer. The tour will commemorate the 30th anniversary of her debut album of the same name. She will play the album in its entirety each night to honor and thank her legion of fans that have stood by her since the beginning.

The concert is the centerpiece of more than 60 events for the GW community that will take place between Sept. 26 and Sept. 29. Additional events include the annual Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards on Thursday and the popular Political Brunch on Sunday.

The GW community includes more than a quarter million living alumni. GW’s 250,000 alumni base consists of graduates living in more than 150 countries and all 50 states. There are prominent alumni in fields from media to law, sports to politics, medicine to business and many more.
