Colonials Enter A-10 Tournament as Top Seed

Four women’s basketball players earn conference postseason honors.

The reigning Atlantic 10 champion George Washington University women's basketball team will defend its title as the No. 1 seed in this weekend’s A-10 Championship in Richmond.

GW (23-6, 13-3 A-10) earned a share of its second straight conference regular-season title with a 73-66 win over rival George Mason on Saturday. The Colonials will have a bye through Friday’s quarterfinal round of the A-10 tournament, where they will face the winner of the second-round matchup between Dayton (14-13, 7-9) and George Mason (11-18, 6-10).

Tipoff on Friday is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Richmond Coliseum.

GW has earned the A-10's No. 1 seed in back-to-back years for the first time since 2006 and 2007. Last season, the Colonials defeated No. 9 Saint Louis, No. 4 Fordham and No. 2 Dayton to win their first league title since 2003.

Four GW players earned A-10 postseason honors, the conference announced Tuesday.

Junior Caira Washington was named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team for the second year in a row, while senior Jonquel Jones and graduate student Lauren Chase were both named to the All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team. Ms. Chase also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team. Freshman Mei-Lyn Bautista was selected to the league's All-Rookie squad.
