Vishva Bhatt, a first-generation American and George Washington University senior, has been chosen to deliver remarks to her fellow Class of 2022 graduates and other members of the GW community at the in-person Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 15 on the National Mall.
Bhatt is an international affairs major concentrating in security policy and environmental studies while minoring in Arabic. During her time at GW, she led the Model United Nations team and directed a non-profit that pairs GW mentors with high schoolers in D.C. She believes GW students are bound together by their hope and commitment to helping make the world a better place, each in their own way.
She is the winner of a multi-round student speaker competition that launched in early February. All members of the graduating Class of 2022 were invited to apply for this #OnlyatGW opportunity of a lifetime.
GW’s 10 schools and colleges each selected a semifinalist to advance to a round of online voting. The semifinalists’ recorded speeches were posted online, and community members had the opportunity to vote for their favorite speech. The five finalists with the most votes were invited to a final round audition in front of a committee comprising GW community members.
Registration is required to attend Commencement on the National Mall and other weekend activities. Graduates may register online by Friday, April 29.
