CCAS Professor Receives Public Understanding of Sociology Award

Gregory D. Squires, research professor and professor emeritus in the Department of Sociology at George Washington University, received the American Sociological Association’s 2025 Public Understanding of Sociology Award. The annual award recognizes members who have significantly advanced the public’s understanding of sociological research through community work and policy engagement.

Squires currently serves on the Fair Housing Task Force of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and the Social Science Advisory Board of the Poverty & Race Research Action Council.

Over his career, he has also served as a consultant and expert witness for civil rights and fair housing organizations nationwide, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Fair Housing Alliance and the National Community Reinvestment Coalition.
