Lien-Yung Nyima Kao, an assistant professor of mathematics at George Washington University, received a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award from the National Science Foundation.

The award will support his research in ergodic geometry, an interdisciplinary field that explores planetary motion, weather patterns and other systems that evolve over time. His project aims to advance understanding of the relationship between an object’s shape and the key dynamical quantities associated with it.

In addition to expanding mathematical knowledge, the award will fund the creation of the GW Experimental Mathematics Lab. The lab will establish a collaborative and vertically integrated research environment where students gain hands-on learning and mentorship opportunities, preparing them to contribute to cutting-edge mathematical research.
