Caroline J. Smith, an associate professor of writing at George Washington Univest, authored a new book titled, “Season to Taste: Rewriting Kitchen Space in Contemporary Women’s Food Memoirs.”
Smith book’s gives a historical overview of how the space of the kitchen, and the expectations of women associated with it, have shifted considerably since the 1960s. The book examines food writing through recopies, memoirs and Better Homes and Gardens articles to trace the evolution of kitchens since the 1960s. Through this book, Smith highlights how women are rewriting the kitchen space and renegotiating their relationships with food.
