CCAS Professor Asked to Speak at International Science Conference

Sylvain Guiriec, an assistant professor of physics and an undergraduate advisor at George Washington University, was invited by the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France to present research on gamma-ray bursts to the France Science Network. The event was attended by science diplomats from Washington-based embassies and from the United States federal government.

Guiriec is also an astrophysics researcher at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center. He is the deputy investigator of the Gamow Explorer mission dedicated to the study of Gamma Ray Bursts. Guiriec is the recipient of awards including the exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal from NASA for his contributions in understanding the nature of gamma-ray bursts via spectral studies.
