The Board of Trustees will solicit input from GW community members on the selection of the university’s next president at a series of 11 town hall meetings Sept. 12 to 14.
“We want to hear directly from the George Washington University community in our search for an exceptional leader who can guide the university into its third century,” said Board of Trustees Chair Nelson Carbonell, B.S. ’85. “Input from those who study, teach, research and work at the university is a key part of the presidential search process.”
At the town halls, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback about the search, offer suggestions about the opportunities and challenges facing the next university president, and discuss the skills and attributes that the next president should possess. Members of the Board of Trustees will attend each session. (A full schedule is listed below.) GW community members who are unable to attend a session can submit feedback on the presidential search site.
The board launched the presidential search process in late June after President Steven Knapp announced he would not seek to renew his contract as president when it expires in summer 2017.
Trustee Madeleine Jacobs, B.S. ’68, D.Sc. (Honorary) ’03, serves as chair of the presidential search committee, made up of trustees, faculty members, alumni and a student and staff member. National executive search firm Isaacson, Miller is assisting in the search.
The board is expected to make its selection in spring 2017 with input from the search committee, Faculty Senate Executive Committee and a faculty consultative committee that will be selected at the Sept. 9 Faculty Assembly meeting.
