The George Washington University Board of Trustees announced the election of three new members who joined the body in June. They are:
Richard A. Jones, J.D. ’84, executive vice president, general counsel and ethics officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and a past president of the GW Alumni Association. Before joining the Federal Reserve Bank in 2000, Jones was regional counsel for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s (FDIC) Atlanta region, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. There, he oversaw the provision of legal services pertaining to the examination and supervision of state-chartered FDIC-insured banks that are not members of the Federal Reserve system. Before joining the FDIC, Jones was for five years a senior regional attorney at the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Thrift Supervision, where he played a lead role in numerous enforcement matters and acquisitions of troubled thrifts. He began his legal career as an attorney with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, D.C.
Jones previously served as a member of GW’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and on the business and finance committee of GW Law’s Center for Law, Economics and Finance (C-LEAF).
He is a current member of the Partners for Home board of directors, a fellow with the American Bar Association and fiduciary director of the State Bar of Georgia pension fund. Jones also is a member of Leadership Atlanta, class of 2006.
Jones earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from Morehouse College in Atlanta. At GW Law, he served as president of the Black Law Students Association. He also is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard University Business School.
Jennifer Park Stout, M.A. ’06, vice president of global public policy and head of the Washington, D.C., office of Snap Inc., maker of the technology application Snapchat. She served 18 years in the U.S. government, including as deputy chief of staff to then-Secretary of State John F. Kerry; special assistant to President Barack Obama in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs; chief of staff to the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs; and deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the State Department.
From 2012 to 2013, as vice president of international government relations for MetLife, Stout led government and industry relations and international business segments in the Asia-Pacific region. Earlier in her career, Stout spent 11 years on Capitol Hill working for several members of Congress including Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Patrick Leahy, Sen. Jim Webb and U.S. Rep. James Moran.
In addition to her M.A. from the Elliott School of International Affairs, Stout holds a B.A. from James Madison University. In 2021, she was appointed to the Board of Governors of the East-West Center.
Camila Tapias, B.A. ’18, M.P.A. ’20, is a global disaster resilience specialist at SPIN Global, where she leads the business and industry and global practice areas. She also leads the Community Disaster Resilience Fund, which directs private equity investment toward resilient infrastructure projects. She was elected by the GW Board of Trustees to serve as a recent alumni trustee.
Tapias serves on the UNDRR ARISE Global Board, the United Nations’ largest private sector alliance for disaster resilient societies. She is an experienced researcher, course designer and instructor with expertise in delivering Department of Homeland Security (DHS) course materials. She has taught courses such as FEMA's “Whole Community Inclusive Economic Recovery and Logistics” and “Supply Chain Resilience in Disasters.” Her work extends to assessing community resilience, supporting emergency management plan development, and creating bilingual training and exercises in English and Spanish on the PlanetReady.com platform. She previously worked as a disaster risk management consultant at the World Bank.
Prior to her work in disaster management and community resilience, Tapias, who is originally from Bogotá, Colombia, advised university leadership at GW on improving the student experience and campus safety and security. Additionally, Tapias has a rich athletic history: She was the captain of GW’s women's basketball team, which she played on for four years, and played on the Colombian women's basketball national team for a decade. She earned an M.P.A. with a specialization in crisis and emergency management and a B.A. in organizational sciences, both from GW.
