The George Washington Board of Trustees today approved a continuation of the university’s program of fixed tuition and guaranteed financial aid.
The program locks in an incoming student’s cost of tuition for a five-year period and ensures that need and merit-based institutional grants remain at least at the levels awarded at the time of initial enrollment.
In a unanimous vote, the board approved a 2.9 percent tuition increase for incoming undergraduate students and voted to limit the increase in the overall cost of attendance for undergraduate students to 2.7 percent. Tuition for incoming undergraduates will be $44,148 for the 2011-12 academic year.
The board will consider financial aid amounts as part of the overall university budget which is expected to be voted on in May.
“We continue to moderate our tuition increases to ensure the affordability of a George Washington education," says GW President Steven Knapp. “At the same time, the fact that continuing undergraduates will not see any increase in their tuition or decrease in their aid is especially important in this time of economic uncertainty.”
