Barenaked Ladies will start the Alumni Weekend 2010 festivities with a live outdoor concert on University Yard. The concert, which will be held Oct. 1 at 8 p.m., is free for GW graduates who register for Alumni Weekend.

A limited number Barenaked Ladies tickets are set aside for students and will be available to undergraduate and graduate students through a lottery system.

The Canadian alternative rock band is best known for the hit singles “One Week,” “If I Had $1,000,000” and “Brian Wilson.” The group has won multiple Juno Awards and been nominated for Grammy Awards.

“We spoke with our alumni volunteers about several acts we could potentially bring to Alumni Weekend, and Barenaked Ladies quickly rose to the top of the list,” says Adrienne Rulnick, associate vice president for alumni relations and development. “Alumni Weekend has grown significantly in the past few years, and we are excited about the buzz this announcement brings. We look forward to welcoming thousands of GW graduates back to their alma mater this fall.”

Alumni Weekend 2010 will be held Sept. 30 to Oct. 3. In addition to the concert, the weekend includes professional development lectures, athletic events, campus tours, a Taste of GW, President’s Open House and special reunion celebrations for the classes of 2005, 2000, 1995 and 1960 and for former Student Association members.

Many of the weekend’s events are open to all alumni and members of the GW community.

To enter the student ticket lottery, students must complete a form available on the Office of Alumni Relations website between Aug. 30 and Sept. 13. Those randomly selected to attend the event will be notified by Sept. 20.
