Award-winning author Tony Horwitz and George Washington University history professor Andrew Zimmerman will facilitate a Civil War Ritual & Remembrance discussion Tuesday, Jan. 28, part of GW’s ongoing participation in the National Civil War Project.
Mr. Horwitz, a Washington, D.C. native and son of the late Norman Horwitz (GW professor emeritus of neurological surgery), spent a decade overseas as a foreign correspondent for the Wall Street Journal, and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1995 for a series of stories about working conditions in low-wage America. He has authored two books on the Civil War: “Midnight Rising” and “Confederates in the Attic.”
The lecture, sponsored by Altria, is free and open to the public and will be held in Betts Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available, and registration is required.
Mr. Horwitz’s books will be available for purchase beginning at 7 p.m. A question-and-answer session, book signing and public reception will follow the conversation. Parking is available in the Marvin Center Parking Garage (entrance on H Street, NW, between 21st and 22nd streets).
The National Civil War Project, a multi-city, multi-year initiative among eight organizations, began last February.
