Members of the George Washington University community are invited to attend a celebration of the GW Alliance for a Sustainable Future on April 17. During this event, the alliance, formally launched last November, will celebrate creativity, scholarship and leadership to advance a more sustainable way of life for the health of our planet.
The dynamic program will include remarks from President Ellen M. Granberg as well as a roundtable discussion with GW faculty, moderated by Provost Christopher Alan Bracey, about the local and global impacts of their cutting-edge research at the intersection of sustainability, environmental and occupational health, engineering, geography and technology.
Frank Sesno, executive director of the alliance, will host a keynote conversation with United States Senator Chris Coons, D-Delaware, co-founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Climate Solutions Caucus. The two will discuss climate priorities and prospects, how this political environment and election year may change the equation, the role of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus, and the importance of universities and young people in this movement.
The event will conclude with the East Coast premiere of “Sacred Place,” a choral work celebrating our relationship with the Earth, nature, healing and compassion. This one–of–a–kind experience, which will illustrate the role that music and the arts play in connecting intellect and emotion, will feature the University Singers and vocal and instrumental soloists, led by Corcoran faculty member Erin Freeman.
On April 18-19, the university will host the annual Planet Forward Summit, which celebrates storytelling and creativity to save the planet. Planet Forward is a partner in the GW Alliance for a Sustainable Future.
