Dear Members of the George Washington University Community,

Last evening, the university reported the very sad news that one of our students had died. Sean Keefer, 19, was a first-year Honors student in our School of Engineering and Applied Science.  He lived in West Hall on our Mount Vernon Campus, where he was found in his room yesterday.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating, and at this time there is no indication that Sean's death was caused by a criminal act.

On behalf of our entire community, I extend my deepest condolences to Sean's family and all who knew him. I ask that we keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

In the wake of this tragedy, I urge all members of the university community to take care of themselves and each other. If you would like to talk to someone about this terrible loss, please contact the University Counseling Center at 202-994-5300 or via the Counseling Center's website.

Sincerely,

Steven Knapp
President
