George Washington University Mental Health Services Director Silvio Weisner has stepped down from the position.

During his time as director, Dr. Weisner oversaw Mental Health Services’ transition to its new location in the Colonial Health Center—a modern health and wellness hub on the ground floor of the Marvin Center. He also increased staffing and services, including adding counseling services on GW’s Mount Vernon Campus.

“We are grateful for Silvio’s leadership in overseeing the enhancement of Mental Health Services, and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Mark Levine, senior associate dean of students.

Gillian Berry, associate director of Mental Health Services, is serving as the interim director and assumes her new role with nearly 25 years of experience as a clinical social worker, trainer and educator. A licensed clinical social worker, she has master’s of social science (social work) and doctor of philosophy (theology) degrees from Birmingham University in England. Dr. Berry also is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work.

The university will launch a national search for a permanent director this fall and invite input from students, faculty and staff as part of the process.
