Four-year-old Ava Lane loves George Washington. She learned about him while studying American history—and was devastated when she found out he’s no longer alive. Her mother, Gina Lane, caught her tearful reaction in a video that went viral last week.

“Ava, can you tell me why you’re crying?” Ms. Lane asks.

“Because I want to meet George Washington,” Ava replies through sobs.

Now, the George Washington University is hoping to make Ava’s dream come true.

George holds up signs that say, “Ava, we know you want to meet George Washington. Lucky for you, I live right here, in Foggy Bottom.” Ava will be given V.I.P. treatment and a seat with her name on it, the video continues.

Speaking from Roanoke, Va., Ms. Lane said Ava and her family have accepted GW’s invitation. Ava has watched the university’s video and enthusiastically looks forward to meeting George.

“Ava’s very excited—she keeps asking to watch the video over and over again. You’ve probably seen the views go up a thousand times because we’ve played it so many times for her,” Ms. Lane said.

She added that her family hopes to attend a basketball game on campus in the coming weeks.

“It’s so sweet of GW to reach out to Ava and to us. Our whole family is thrilled and honored, and we can’t wait to come visit,” Ms. Lane said.
