Google Street View has gone off road in Foggy Bottom.

The Internet giant’s mapping tool, which allows viewers to explore locations around the world from their computers, has expanded to non-street, green spaces at the George Washington University’s Foggy Bottom Campus.

Spot George!

Before Colonial Inauguration kicks off Thursday, the university is challenging incoming freshman to find George in seven Foggy Bottom locations.

The first student to tweet or Instagram screenshots of all seven George scenes in Foggy Bottom will win GW swag to help prepare him/her to rock the Buff-and-Blue during their freshman year at GW.

Students should tweet or Instagram post using the #FindGWGeorge and #GWClassof2019 hashtags. The first to post all seven locations will be declared the winner.

University Yard, the Mid-Campus Quad, South Yard and Anniversary Park are among the areas now available on Google Street View, as are the breezeway between Phillips and Rome halls and the pavilion at the Foggy Bottom Metro station between 23rd and 24th streets Northwest.

GW even added a little humor to the tool, sneaking George, the university mascot, into seven of the Street View scenes. A #FindGWGeorge contest has been created ahead of the university’s annual Colonial Inauguration orientation sessions, encouraging incoming freshmen to spot the mascot and post screenshots of the scenes to Twitter or Instagram.

“We’re hoping this contest will help incoming students become acclimated to GW’s campus before they even set foot in Foggy Bottom for CI,” the contest description reads.

Non-street, green spaces on the Mount Vernon Campus will be available in the near future.
