The leading international affairs publication will be managed by the Elliott School of International Affairs beginning spring 2014.

The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs announced last week that it will sponsor the Washington Quarterly, a leading journal of international affairs, beginning with the spring 2014 issue. The prestigious journal analyzes global developments and their policy implications.

“The acquisition of the Washington Quarterly is a great step forward for the Elliott School, which prides itself on both research and the application of research in the policy world,” said Elliott School Dean Michael E. Brown. “I believe this will be a capacity-enhancing move, for both the Elliott School and the Washington Quarterly.”

Established in 1978, the Washington Quarterly analyzes global strategic changes and their public policy implications for an audience of subscribers in more than 50 countries. It features articles on key issues in international affairs, as well as pieces by international experts. It has addressed pressing issues, including the rising powers of China and India, nuclear proliferation challenges in Iran and North Korea, and the continuing implications of Egypt’s uprisings. The journal’s spring 2014 issue will be published next month and will focus on U.S. security strategy.

“We are extremely excited to have the Washington Quarterly join the GW and Elliott School academic communities, which will provide excellent opportunities for collaboration and innovation,” said Alexander T.J. Lennon, editor-in-chief of the journal. “The Elliott School is a leader among international affairs schools in bridging research and policy—a primary goal of the Washington Quarterly for the last 36 years.”

The journal’s most recent issue and archives can be accessed from its newly launched page on the Elliott School’s website.
