The George Washington University Board of Trustees Friday approved the university's operating and capital budgets. Investments in the implementation of the university’s strategic plan, residence hall renovations and research and academic building improvements are included in the annual budget.

The $935 million operating budget continues to support academic and research programs and student support services, and includes increased graduate and undergraduate financial aid totaling more than $260 million. The university will continue its popular fixed tuition plan, which locks in an incoming undergraduate student’s tuition for a five-year period. The university also is continuing to make investments as part of its long-term strategic plan, including creating cross-disciplinary institutes, such as the GW Cancer Center, and improving the infrastructure that supports research.

The capital budget totals approximately $132.7 million and continues the university’s investment in previously approved major capital projects that deliver enhanced facilities in support of the university mission. The capital budget also includes funds for renovations and improvements to existing campus buildings.

Included in the budget is $69 million for housing and student life projects, including the continued construction of District House and renovations and upgrades to Mitchell and Strong residence halls.

Academic and research projects, totaling $63 million, will include digital upgrades for classrooms, renovations to Ross Hall and classroom and research investments at the Virginia Science and Technology Campus. Renovations for the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design’s 17th Street building that were previously approved by the board also have been included.
